The art of glass fusing is designing, cutting, manipulating, cold-working, and firing it in a kiln to fuse the glass together and get the desired effect. Each piece contains in the design 2 to 6 layers of glass. The glass is annealed in the kiln to strengthen the glass. To get the glass to "slump" into a mold form, the glass is fired a second time in the kiln which turns up the edges for bowls and dishes. There are many techniques are used to get the desired effects with fusing glass. Some pieces go into the kiln 3 different times with cold working in between fusing to get the desired effect.
Some fused glass the patterns are painted on. At the Glass Reef we use all glass in our designs. Each piece is all cut and fit glass to create the design.
